The difference in Red Desert® BATHING clay as compared to other clay is ~
- Red Desert® clay is not irradiated nor does it contain bacteria, fungus or mold.
- the ionic charge is very, very high due to the location of our mine in the hot, dry, southwest desert - where originally hydrothermal activity took place and changed the structure of the Red Desert® Clay molecule - creating a "living clay." In this heated natural environment the clay minerals lost a water molecule, which caused each particle to create it's own ionic field of energy (becoming electrically negative).
- the tiny, tiny particle size. The smaller the clay particles are the more particles of clay are touching the skin. Most particles of Red Desert® clay are 2 to 3 microns in size, which is much smaller than the greyish/white colored clays. (For comparison, a hair on your head is approximately 2 to 3 microns).
How Much to Use?
Gerson Institute - - Red Desert® Clay is used at the Gerson Institute for alternative healing in San Diego. You can make a clay pak for any area of the body, by taking a heaping tablespoon or more and mixing with water until you reach a spreadable mud consistency.
Clay Pak ~ Using a spatula, spread the clay on the affected area of the body and allow to dry. Drying takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse off in the tub or shower. Remember to let the water run in your tub for a couple of minutes to assist the clay in completely flushing through your pipes.
If the skin is already irritated, we suggest placing a thin peice of 100% cotton cloth on the skin first and then applying the clay to the thin cloth. Once the clay dries, you can remove the cloth, throw out the clay and repeat the clay pak as necessary.
Tub Bath ~ First, fill a drinking glass with good quality water and have it next to the tub.
As your bathtub is filling with very warm/hot water - kinda like a hot tub – but whatever is comfortable for you, slowly mix in the clay (very warm/hot water opens the pores of the skin and stimulates the lymph system). Stir the clay with a non-metal utensil, to keep the clay particles from sticking together.
How much clay to use is an individual choice depending on your health. Since Red Desert® Clay has a powerful electrical and ionic charge for pulling out toxins etc., 1 cup is the most common amount used (less for children). However some people use up to 2 cups, soaking in the tub for 10 to 20 minutes.
Those with chronic conditions i.e. high blood pressure, heart conditions etc, it is a good idea to check with your doctor first and with approval, try ˝ cup clay, soaking in the tub for just 10 minutes.
If you cannot get into a tub you can do a foot bath.
When you are finished with your bath, drink the glass of water to re-hydrate and then shower off. It is a good idea to honor the body and allow the body to rest while it continues to adjust to the detoxification process.
We have found the Red Desert® Clay to go down our drain smoothly, YET we always let our tub water run for an extra 2 minutes to allow all the clay to move out from the pipes. Although we have never had any complaints with our clay clogging drains – if you have old pipes or are concerned about the clay clogging your drain, wait a few hours for the clay to settle to the bottom of the tub. You can then bucket the water out and use paper towels to scoop out the remaining clay.
Foot Bath ~ Mix 1/8th to 1/4th cup clay in a small tub and soak your feet for 15 to 20 minutes or so. This often will make the toes and feet tingle, as the strong ionic charge (pulling power) of Red Desert® clay does its job pulling out toxins and bringing the blood flow to the skin surface.
Facial ~ A clay masque is a wonderful deep cleansing solution to remove bacteria, toxins, excess acid etc. from the skin. It has an astringent action as well as a toning affect and leaves the skin soft while opening pores and removing dead skin cells. Since clay has an antibacterial as well as an antiseptic action, it will stop the growth of bacteria.
Take a couple of teaspoons of Red Desert® clay, mix with a little water (peanut butter consistency). Cover your face 20 to 30 minutes before getting in the shower. Rinse off and notice how strong and effective the clay is for pulling toxins out through the skin, and bringing the blood to the skin surface, which is very nourishing. Red Desert® Clay also tightens the pores and tones the skin.

Laura - Ontario I have muscular dystrophy. I took my first bath and nothing black came out, not even a change in the color of the clay; but the odors were almost intoxicating from a strong chlorine to God only knows what else. I only put one cup of Red Desert® clay in the tub, knowing how clogged up and toxic I have been. I thought it best to go slow and easy. I soaked for 40 minutes. The most amazing thing happened. I got out of the tub on my own. I haven't been able to do that for over 10 years. I can only take a bath when someone is around to assist me.
Eytons Earth - Radiation Protection: "Russian scientists use clay to protect their bodies from radiation when working with nuclear material, by coating their hands and bodies with a hydrated clay "magma" before donning radiation suits. Clay adsorbs radiation so well, in fact, that it was the choice material used to dump into Cherynobl after the nuclear meltdown in the former Soviet Union."
Buruli Ulcer - One of our customers in Cyprus suffered with Buruli ulcer. This is a micro-bacteria similar to leprosy and tuberculosis which eats away the flesh on the body. It is a horrible condition. This man had a friend in New York who purchased our Red Desert® Clay in the spring of 2005 and brought it to Cyprus. After eating the clay every day and making poultices with for approximately 6 months, I recevied word that the Buruli ulcer condition was nearly gone and this man is doing very well."
