Frequently Asked Questions

Red Desert TMclay
Also Known As
Terramin - TerraBathe - Nutramin - TerraPond

Premium Calcium Montmorillonite

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between Terrapond, Nutramin, Terramin and TerraBathe?
All of our Red DesertTM clay calcium montmorillonite comes from the same mine in the very Southeastern corner of California. Red DesertTM clay / Terramin is our edible clay for people, Nutramin for animals and TerraBathe for a detoxifying bath, facial or foot bath, poultices etc.

The top 12" of clay at this deposit is removed and packaged as Terrapond, for koi and pondkeepers. This top layer, since it is open to the environment, contains whatever is blown in with the wind i.e. sand, seeds and other natural elements in the air.

The next layer down when mined, is crushed at a 200 mesh and ground into powder and packaged as Nutramin for Pets, and TerraBathe for an excellent detoxification bath and/or healing paks for tumors and injuries to the body.

A few feet deeper, underneath this layer is pure rock hard strata, which is removed and packaged as Red DesertTM clay / Terramin. This layer is the purest vein and goes down more than 25' below the ground surface. When mined it is carefully and finely screened to filter out and remove any natural elements and larger particles with a very fine mesh (300 mesh). This is a very labor intensive and slow process.

How Much To Take? Can I overdose on Terramin?
It would be hard to overdose on clay when ingested in sensible amounts. Our body uses what it needs. We personally use 1 tsp - 1 to 2 times a day for detox maintenance, and to receive the abundant minerals. People who want a faster detoxification will take higher amounts. The Terramin has a pH of 8.3 and is very helpful in alkalanizing the body.

Does Terramin Have An Effect On Bacteria?
Yes. Red DesertTM clay / Terramin has a very strong affinity for unfriendly bacteria, immobilizing the micro-organisms so they cannot thrive. We have received many phone calls from people with long time bacteria problems, which cleared up upon adding the Terramin to their regime.

Constipation when eating clay?
Most people find the Red DesertTM clay / Terramin to be very helpful in cleansing their digestive tract and the bowels moving much better.

The main cause for constipation, which is a fairly chronic condition for many people, is dietary, lack of exercise and water -not every constipation condition, but for most. Not enough fiber i.e. raw vegetables and pure water in the diet can cause the the colon to move the waste too slowly.

Some people pass rocks every day and do not consider themselves to have a constipation problem until they eat clay. (the bowels should move more like a rope not in rock form). The clay absorbs some of the water in the digestive system as it cleanses, which can slow down the bowels. For most people the clay helps all move through better - and for a few, it can cause sluggish bowels to move even slower.

MOST PEOPLE HAVE A MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY Eating a more alkaline/green diet will be the best solution. This may take some time for you to change the diet and clean the bowels, and we always suggest adding our magnesium product to your regime for an immediate solution. The magnesium will support over 300 body systems and relax the bowels.

Will ingesting Red DesertTM clay / Terramin help with osteoporosis?
"I have been using Terramin Clay for about a year, and this year my Dexascan results improved. I went from borderline osteoporosis in my back to osteopaena. I work out regularly because of the history in my family. This was such good news--I told my doctor about Red DesertTM clay / Terramin and she is going to research it. My daughter put me onto it, so I want to thank you for a health saving product for me." Jeannette W. Las Vegas

Red DesertTM clay / Terramin is very, very high in silica…55.3%, which is an essential mineral of significant value for bone formation… necessary for calcium absorption into the bone itself, for remineralization of bones and can aid in increasing cartilage between joints. Silica is present in your hair, nails, and skin and is needed for flexible arteries.

WHAT MAKES THIS VERY SIGNIFICANT is "calcium depends on alumina silica for entry into the bone...silica changes the arrangements of the atoms within the calcium molecule, thus enabling it to enter the bone cell. Without the silica, which is often missing or very low, the calcium attaches to the outside of the bone, but is unable to enter within the bone mass itself.

Will the Terramin help remove mercury toxicity from my mercury fillings? Yes, it will help. Red DesertTM clay / Terramin binds to heavy metals i.e. mercury, alumimum, iron, lead, arsenic, copper, nickel as well as pathogens and many other toxins. It is very important to have your dental amalgams removed, to stop the constant exposure to mercury vapors, which leak from these amalgams 24/7. Mercury bio-accumulatles in the brain, and triggers many health challenges. The Natural liquid zeolite is also very beneficial in removing mercury.

( Also, mercury is a by product of coal burning and very difficult to filter out)

What is the difference between Betonite, Pascalite and Terramin? The main difference is the location of our mine, which is in the hot desert near the Mexico border. The high heat and arid conditions keeps the Red DesertTM clay / Terramin particles in an 'open ion state' creating stronger pulling power for removing toxins. It also allows for high alkalinity and smaller particle size as explained below. Clays found in colder regions are not in an open ion state….and do not carry as strong an ionic charge, and most are not edible.

In the heat of the desert, the rainfall is minimal, moisture is nearly non-existent, and temperatures are consistently high; therefore there is almost no leaching of minerals. No drying is needed as found with other betonites and montmorillonites. This means minerals and trace elements are not lost, and washing away of the ions and chemical hydrolysis is almost non existent. Clay deposits found in Northern areas where there is significant rain, snowfall and leaching are not as likely to be found in an 'open ion state,' which makes a difference in the quality and grade.

A very important componet of the "pulling power" of any clay is the PARTICLE SIZE . Most of the particle sizes of Terramin, Nutramin and TerraBathe are 2 to 3 microns in size. This microscopic size allows for a huge surface area of clay to pull out toxins. This is very, very important. The smaller the clay particles, the larger the surface area...the greater the amount of toxins, bacteria, impurities etc. are pulled out of the body.

Betonite is a tradename originally given to clay found near Fort Benton Wyoming; and it is a sodium montmorillonite (not edible). Betonite has become a nickname used for nearly every clay, making it very confusing for people looking for edible clay.

Pascalite was the name of a French-Canadian trapper and prospector who began mining clay in 1930 in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming, which has been marketed as Pascalite clay. This company classifies their clay as "calcium montmorillonite", however it is approximately .9% calcium and 9.7% silicon. The Pascalite is mined and then solar dried for about 9 months to remove all the moisture.

Red DesertTM clay is a powerful whole body detoxifier, very alkalinizing for the body with a pH of 8.3. The red color of Terramin, Nutramin and TerraBathe indicates a higher amount of iron.

Terramin carries the highest negative ionic charge which is best used by the body for detoxification purposes. All toxins are positively charged. In nature, opposites attract. Thus, the negative ions in the clay attract the toxins, which are positively charged ions, (i.e. heavy metals, pathogens, bacteria, impurities, radiation etc.) facilitating the movement of these toxins through the skin when bathing or when ingesting, through the kidneys, liver and lymphatic system and out the elimination process of the body….safely, effectively and inexpensively.

Terramin, Nutramin and TerraBathe are 100% natural calcium montmorillonite clay, and have not been altered in any way or mixed with inexpensive clays. They are full of essential minerals and trace elements, simple to use, and can be very effective in a short period of time.

How does the Terramin/Nutramin/TerraBathe compare to the other montmorillonites?
Most all clays are helpful and effective for healing, when used as a paste, pak or for bathing. The Red DesertTM clay / Terramin has a more powerful negative ionic charge than other betonites mined in northern states, and because it is a high quality calcium montmorillonite, it can be used for ingesting, as well as bathing, poultices, and masks.

There are many clays throughout the world, and each have their own unique fingerprint like people. Red DesertTM clay / Terramins average particle size is smaller than most other clays (2 to 3 microns), which is important in the absorption process for taking in the minerals and trace elements whether for plants, animals or humans.

Because Red DesertTM clay / Terrramin comes from a mine in the desert, it has a very powerful negative ionic charge (this charge is measurable) which is important in detoxification. As a result of millions of years of exposure to high temperatures from solar heating, pyrogenisis and earthquake fissures, the very high negative ionic charge came about. The higher the ionic charge the better the results for pulling out toxins.

Detoxificatin works through a process in nature called opposite polarity attraction (plus to minus and minus to plus)…..the higher the charge the higher the attraction. Most toxins, pathogens and bacterium in nature are positively charged. When very fine clay, such as the Terramin, is present, which holds this powerful negative ionic charge, it surrounds the positively charged toxins and carries them out of the body thru the elimination process.

How long is the clay good for?
The clay does not expire. It has been located in the desert for millions of years and does not need to be stored in any special conditions. It might clump a bit if left in very cold temperatures or in high humidity.

Is this clay from volcanic ash?
The original minerals that Terramin consists of, contain rocks that were formed from volcanic activity during one period in earths history (tetonic activity) and transported by water and gravity to it's current location millions of year ago. The original rock, which formed the earth from the big bang, is the primary source of all elements on earth. What makes clay clay is the processes in nature, i,e weathering over millions of years, exposure to the elements, water, freezing ice, thermal heat, nature grinding etc.

Can I Use This Clay For Bathing?
Absolutely. We suggest TerraBathe, it is the same calcium montmorillonite, however it is minimally screened, i.e. less expensive. It is great for detoxification through the skin, the largest surface area of the body.

How long do I have to take the Red DesertTM clay / Terramin before I feel a difference? The Terramin will start working right away on the entire body at removing poisons i.e. heavy metals, bacteria, environmental toxins, nicotine, parasites, pathogens, radiation etc...keeping them from being reabsorbed into the bloodsteam. The effects are wide and varied. The most noticeable benefit is the immediate increased efficiency to the digestive tract and how well it improves the elimination process of the colon moving the food out of the body. Some people notice within days that they have more energy. This is because the heavy load on the colon, liver, kidneys and lymph systems is lightened.

Why Is Terramin Called Living Clay?
The formation of clay mineral spheres from hydrothermal activity, consistently hot temperatures and minimal rainfall, as in the Terramin, allows each particle of clay to create its own ionic field of energy, each particle becomes an ion..hence an abundance of negatively charged ions is referred to as Living clay.

There is a great book THE CLAY CURE, wich offers information on the effects for ingesting clay and the science behind it. We have this book available.
